Business Rescue & Insolvency Strategist
Combine your financial problem-solving skills and your people skills to make a real difference in the lives of company directors. Join an ethical team with a 5-star reputation.
Most job ads for any role in the Financial Services space sound like they were written by someone who has never lived in the real world and had a genuine human conversation.
They’re full of words like:
“solutions-focused”
“commercially astute”
“stakeholder engagement”
“proven advisory capability”
“fast-paced environment”
…and somehow, by the end of the ad, you still have no real idea what the job is, who you’ll be helping, or whether the work will actually leave you feeling any more fulfilled than the stuff you’re doing right now.
So we thought we’d be more human and more honest.
Because the person we’re looking for can’t be summed up with a neat list of ‘technical skills’ or even a specific qualification.
We’re looking for a very unique person.
Someone with the EQ and maturity to sit with business owners during some of the most stressful, frightening and uncertain moments of their lives and help them find a way forward.
If that’s you then you’re probably not on Seek looking for another soulless way to pay the bills, you’re at a stage in your life where you want more from your work than just a salary.
What de Jonge Read actually does
DJRA helps directors and business owners through some of the toughest financial times of their lives.
When a business is under pressure, the owner is usually carrying more than just the financial numbers.
They’re carrying the weight of staff, family, suppliers, creditors, personal guarantees, tax debt, sleepless nights, and the question they may not be saying out loud:
“What happens if I can’t fix this?”
That’s where we come in.
We don’t just advise.
We guide, support, challenge, explain, plan and walk alongside people with empathy, clarity and commercial discipline.
Our work sits at the intersection of business advisory, financial strategy, restructuring, pre-insolvency and human support.
And while we deal with numbers, legislation, options and consequences every day, this is not just a technical role.
It’s about being the lighthouse in the storm and helping people through one of the toughest emotional experiences they’ll ever have.
Why this role is available
Due to growth in the market and internal movement.
We’re looking for someone who can join our team as a Business Rescue Strategist and help directors, business owners and their families make better decisions when the stakes are high.
You don’t need to come from a business rescue or insolvency background.
In fact, you probably won’t.
You may come from commercial banking, business banking, accounting, corporate recovery, business advisory, financial planning, professional services, commercial finance, or business management.
What matters is that you have strong commercial and financial acumen, you can build trust quickly, and you genuinely care about helping people find a practical way through difficult situations.
The kind of person we think will thrive in this role
You're probably doing well in your current career. From the outside, things look great.
But something has shifted for you.
Maybe you’re tired of endless reporting or corporate politics.
Maybe you’re tired of looking at numbers after the damage has already been done.
Maybe you’re just tired of helping a business make money doing something you’re completely disconnected from.
And maybe you’ve started wondering:
“Is this really what I want to spend the next 5 or 10 years doing?”
You’ll probably recognise yourself here
✅ You like solving problems where there isn’t an obvious answer.
✅ You can read financial information, but you can also read the room.
✅ You know how to balance empathy with commercial reality.
✅ You can explain complex things in a way that makes people feel calmer, not more confused.
✅ You’re comfortable having difficult conversations.
✅ You can make recommendations without needing everything to be pure black and white first.
✅ You’re curious, coachable and open to learning a new profession.
✅ You’d rather have real impact with real people than spend your days in internal meetings, dashboards and bureaucracy.
You’ll also need emotional resilience. Because sometimes the conversations are hard.
The people we help are often under enormous pressure, and they need someone who can be compassionate without becoming overwhelmed, direct without being harsh, and commercially disciplined without losing sight of the human being in front of them.
What’s in it for you
This is a role where your commercial skills genuinely matter.
Not in a “prepare a report that sits in someone’s inbox” kind of way. In a “help this person make one of the most important decisions of their life” kind of way.
You’ll be joining a well-established business with a strong reputation and a clear methodology, but you’ll still have room to think, contribute, learn and grow.
You’ll be supported by experienced people who understand the work, the clients and the emotional weight of what we do.
You’ll get the opportunity to become deeply trusted by business owners, directors and their families, often during moments they will remember for the rest of their lives.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
As a Business Rescue Strategist, you’ll work directly with business owners, directors and stakeholders to understand their situation, assess their options and help them move forward.
Your days will include all these types of things across an average week.
Reviewing financial information and working through cashflow, viability and risk.
Speaking with a client, a business owner who is overwhelmed, embarrassed, frightened or unsure what to do next.
Helping a new client understand their options clearly for the first time.
Liaising with internal team members to help move a case file forward.
Attending team meetings, training or referral partner seminars.
You won’t be expected to understand this specific role from day one. But you will need to bring the commercial judgement, communication skills and emotional maturity to learn it properly.
Our non-negotiables
You don’t need to have worked in business rescue before.
But you do need to be able to look at a business situation, understand the numbers, understand the human dynamics, and help people make practical decisions.
Who this role is not for
This probably won’t be the right role for you if:
❌ You need rigid structure before you can take action.
❌ You avoid difficult conversations.
❌ You prefer technical work with minimal client contact.
❌ You become overwhelmed by other people’s stress.
❌ You need to be told what to do at every step.
❌ You’re motivated primarily by title or money.
❌ You’re not open to learning a new way of working.
❌ You want a purely analytical role where the numbers matter more than the person sitting across from you.
Because the best Strategists are not just technically capable.
They create trust. They create confidence and they create clarity.
When a distressed business owner sits down with a great strategist, that person should leave feeling understood, steadier, and more hopeful than when they arrived.
